Premier 7’s 2017 – Round 3
Premier 7’s Div 5 Round 3 vs Chermside Ladies (Away)
After an away win at Jindalee last week the team was on the road again, this time taking on the Chermside Ladies …..
The conditions were hot and humid with a few clouds in the sky. Afternoon showers had been predicted but did not eventuate.
With a number of players unavailable Danny Keough stepped up to be our singles representative.
Danny got away to a dream start and led 10-1 after seven ends and 19-2 after fourteen ends. His opponent Pat Hobson started to find her line and the margin had shrunk to only 8 after twenty one ends (20-12). A swirling breeze changed the playing conditions and Danny K was having some difficulty adjusting. This enabled Pat to claw her way back into the game and after thirty three ends the margin was now five (26-21) and game on! At forty ends (this was a marathon!) Danny led 30-27. Both players gave their all in the forty first end before Danny secured the victory 31-27. A number of great bowls were played in this game, which was a fantastic spectacle. A great effort by both players in the steamy conditions! Red Hill up 1-0
A new fours combination of Dave Lee, Vince Knauth, Ian Dent and Rod McConaghie took to the mat.
Early signs were promising with the scores 2-2 after four ends and 4-4 after seven ends. Unfortunately, it was here that the opposition took control of the game, scoring four shots on the ninth end, followed by a six, three, four and five making the score 27-5, and out of reach after fourteen ends ……
The Hillies tried to recover but it was not to be, but no complaints losing to a stronger team on the day 9-34. All tied, Red Hill 1 Chermside Gals 1 …..
Chris Hoskins and Alan Daniels again represented the Hillies in the pairs.
They got away to a steady start with scores locked at 3-3 after three ends and 6-6 after six ends. With all players contributing and playing well it was obvious this game would be a tight contest. The game continued to flow with first one team then the other having an advantage. Red Hill were trailing 10-11 after thirteen ends when their opponents surged scoring a three and two to take a 16-10 lead. Not to be outdone Chris and Alan scored a four and three singles to take the lead 17-16 with two ends remaining. The Chermside Ladies scored a single on the twentieth end and the scores were locked 17-17. The final end seesawed back and forth until our boys showed great determination to win the game 19-17. Al Daniels had turned things around several times during this match, when things were looking grim …… a great effort boys, Red Hill victorious 2-1
Overall a 2-1 result in favour of Red Hill, away from home, and another two points on the board!
