Pennants Round 7
Division 3 – Red Hill 77 def. Everton Park 49
It was a chance for the Div 3 team to seek a little revenge after a narrow loss to Everton Park in the first round on ‘their turf’. A win would be more satisfying as EP were leading the competition.
The only downside was a few team changes brought about by illnesses and unavailability to a few key players. The Hillies dug deep though and came away big winners by 77 – 49!!
The win of the day and worthy of a Roast Turkey came from Pottsy who skipped Brettman, Kirkinator and Matty. Our boys started like demons and never looked back. We picked up a 6 on end 4 to lead by 9 – 1, and then a 7 on end 11 to be home and hosed at 24 – 2!
With some great team bowling all around, Pottsy led them home to a final score of 33 – 11. This was Mighty Mick’s 4th game of pennants this season and he has won the Turkey 3 times. Superstar!!
So with Pottsy flying out in front, there was little pressure on the other rinks.
Bobby Morton skipped Trev, Jason Bacanskas (making his debut after responding to an emergency call up), and Wally. Again a great team effort saw this rink home by 24 – 17.
Jason played some outstanding bowls and we were never headed on this rink either. The final score flattered the EP team who managed to pick up a 5 on the penultimate end. A great effort all round by the Hillies.
On the last rink, it was a much tighter struggle. Birksy skipped Dave Lee, Ando and Magilla and the match was close throughout. Eventually we went down by a single shot 20 – 21. Dave played some great lead bowls against very solid opposition. The result could have gone either way.
So in the end it was a percentage boosting win by 77 – 49 against the table leaders.
Three games to go and all are critical – one at a time they say, and next week it is Ferny Grove at their place. Let’s give it to them! Go the Hill.
